A plane has returned to Glasgow airport after smoke was spotted in the cabin mid-flight.

Jet2 flight LS161 took off this morning heading to Geneva, Switzerland.

However, it was forced to turn around after smoke was found.

The airline has confirmed it was caused by catering equipment.

Pilots turned the plane around just north of Dumfries and returned to Glasgow.

Jet2 has said the fault with the on-board oven caused smoke in the forward galley.

Passengers are due to board a replacement flight to Geneva.

A spokesperson for Jet2 said: “We can confirm that flight LS161 followed procedure and returned to Glasgow Airport after a minor fault with the oven in the forward galley created some smoke.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

“The aircraft landed safely and customers will be transferred onto a replacement aircraft.”

It comes after another Jet2 flight made an emergency landing at Glasgow airport on Friday night.

The plane from Lanzarote was forced to land following a medical incident onboard.

The plane departed César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport at 3.18pm local time but on it’s descent declared an emergency ‘Squawk 770’ at around 7.05pm.
