An urgent search is under way for a two-year-old boy who was snatched in a street in Australia.

New South Wales Police has issued an amber alert after Jax Wilson who was taken from a family member in Coffs Harbour just after 2pm on Friday local time.

He was driven away from the scene in a black Volkswagen Golf by a man and a woman.

Police said the man and woman were known to the toddler.

An amber alert is typically issued in time-critical situations after the abduction of a child under 18 years of age, according to police in Australia.

Police will reasonably suspect there is an “imminent risk of death or serious harm” to the person.

Jax is described as 70cm tall with blonde hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing brown shorts and a colourful t-shirt, police said.

Anyone with any relevant information is being urged to contact police.
