Gay former Democratic mayor sentenced to 150 years behind bars for 140+ counts of child pornography, but will only serve 30 years

A gay former Democratic mayor has been sentenced to 150 years in prison after pleading guilty to 140 counts of child pornography, but will only serve 30 years behind bars.

Patrick Wojahn, former mayor of the city of College Park in Maryland, was slapped with a 150-year jail sentence on Nov. 20. According to the Baltimore Sun, Wojahn was indicted on “possession, possession with intent to distribute and distribution of material that exploits children – a mixture of misdemeanors and felonies with maximum penalties ranging from five to 10 years’ incarceration.”

During a press briefing that followed the sentencing hearing, Maryland Assistant State’s Attorney Monica Meyers said investigators found videos and images of the child abuse on Wojahn’s mobile phone alone. Of the more than 500 children recorded being abused on the device, 52 of them were identified by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Despite the heinous nature of the crime, Prince George’s County Circuit Judge Karen Mason suspended Wojahn’s sentence down to 30 years – saying she was satisfied with the level of remorse he had shown. Mason warned, however, that Wojahn could serve the remaining 120-year sentence in prison the moment he violated the conditions of his five-year parole.

Under Maryland law, “nonviolent” are eligible for parole after serving one-fourth of their sentence – which amounts to seven-and-a-half years. However, upon release, Wojahn must still undergo five years of supervised probation and register as a sex offender.

Wojahn mentored by fellow Democrat Buttigieg

“Interestingly, Wojahn had previously made numerous visits to the Biden White House and met with high-profile politicians,” InfoWars noted. Former South Bend, Indiana Mayor and incumbent Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was among those politicians, and he eventually mentored the Maryland mayor. Photos circulating on social media showed Wojahn taking several selfies with his mentor.

A Fox News piece elaborated on the mentor-mentee relationship between the two. Wojahn described the link between him and Buttigieg in an interview with the Washington Blade, which the Fox News story cited.

Wojahn told the Blade that he met Buttigieg after being elected as mayor in 2015. He participated in the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ Winter Meeting in Washington, D.C., where the then-South Bend mayor was assigned to be his buddy. Both had regular chats on the phone after that first meeting, with Buttigieg giving Wojahn “tips on what to expect ahead of the mayoral conference.”

Buttigieg and Wojahn met again in person during a reception following the conference, which was sponsored by the Obama White House. The partners of both mayors – Wojahn’s partner Dave Kolesar and Buttigieg’s partner Chasten Glezman – also met each other at the time. “Buttigieg would continue to mentor Wojahn through the conference,” the Blade continued.

“I now serve in a leadership role as vice chair of city livability and bicycling, in part due to his mentorship,” said Wojahn.

Aside from visits to the White House, Fox News said Wojahn had also posted pictures with several Democratic lawmakers on social media. Some of the politicians he posed with included former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) and former Labor Secretary Tom Perez. One picture taken by Wojahn included John Podesta, currently senior presidential advisor for clean energy innovation and implementation in the Biden administration.

InfoWars concluded its piece about the former mayor, who resigned from his position in March, with a question: “Was Wojahn a lone actor in his abuse of children, or is he the scapegoat for a wider network?”
